Drag & draw

Drag & Draw was an observational drawing studio at ArtCenter College of Design. For this project, I selected three of my ten-minute sketches to further render using different mediums for each.

For this project, I did observational work of two drag queens, focusing on capturing their expressive movements, dynamic costumes, and story told within their poses. I began with one-minute gesture sketches to quickly capture their energy and fluidity in poses. Afterward, I created a series of 3/4 more detailed ten-minute sketches.

To bring these sketches forward, I took my ten-minute drawings and rendered each one using a different medium: Copic markers, colored pencils, and pencil. This approach allowed me to explore different textures, lighting, and artistic interpretations, resulting in three distinct yet cohesive finished pieces. Through this study, I not only showed my figure-drawing skills but also showed my appreciation for drag culture.
